Your Warranty Starts with Us
As part of your deck build, our finance team handles the warranty registration process directly with Trex.
That means you don’t need to lift a finger. Your project is officially registered with the manufacturer before it’s even complete.
Once registered, Trex will email you directly with a welcome packet that includes:
- Your official warranty documentation
- Cleaning and maintenance guides
- Contact information for Trex’s support team
Pro Tip: Save that email in a safe place. While Trex stores all warranty records in their system, having your documentation on hand makes any future service request faster and easier.
What Happens if You Need to File a Claim?
If you experience a problem with your Trex decking that may be covered under warranty, your first step should be to contact your TrexPro® installer to see if they can assist with a solution. If that’s not an option, you can contact Trex directly. Since your warranty is already on file, their team can verify your information and walk you through the claims process.
When you work with Custom Built, you’re backed by a team that’s here to support you long after your deck is finished. While you do not need to go through us or any TrexPro® installer to submit a warranty claim, if an issue arises, you can contact us directly, and we’ll walk you through the process. Your Trex warranty is registered at the time of your build and remains valid for its full term. While Trex or your preferred TrexPro® installer can help if needed, we’re committed to being your first call for any future repairs or questions.
Selling Your Home? You Can Transfer the Warranty
Trex’s limited warranty is transferable one time. That means if you sell your home, the next homeowner can still benefit from the protection, helping boost your resale value.
To transfer the warranty:
- Contact Trex’s warranty department directly
- Provide the necessary documentation from your original warranty email
- Complete the transfer process with their support team
This transfer process is handled entirely by Trex, not by Custom Built.
5 Tips to Keep Your Warranty Coverage Intact
Trex warranties are comprehensive, but they’re not unconditional. Taking a few preventive steps can ensure your warranty stays valid and your deck stays beautiful for decades.
Here’s how to avoid accidentally voiding your coverage:
- Use Approved Cleaners: Only use cleaning products listed in Trex’s approved cleaner guide. Harsh chemicals or bleach-based cleaners can damage the surface and void your warranty.
- Avoid Painting or Staining: Trex boards are engineered with a protective shell and rich finish that doesn’t require painting or staining. Altering the surface with coatings can compromise performance and negate your warranty.
- Install According to Trex Guidelines: If you're attaching railings, using fasteners, or adding structural elements, follow Trex’s official installation instructions. Improper fasteners or incorrect joist spacing can cause structural issues that aren’t covered under warranty. Unless you have prior deck-building experience, it’s best to trust the installation to us or another professional TrexPro® deck builder. Ensuring your deck is built correctly from the start helps protect both your investment and your warranty.
- Maintain Proper Drainage and Ventilation: Decking installed in areas without proper airflow or drainage can trap moisture, which may lead to issues outside of warranty protection.
- Keep Records: Save receipts, invoices, and warranty registration emails. If you file a claim, you’ll need proof of purchase, project registration, and possibly photos of your installation.
Following these simple tips can save you time, money, and frustration in the long run, ensuring you enjoy the full benefits of your Trex deck for years to come.
