The Custom Built Way - Our Proven Process for Remodeling Success
May 31st, 2019 | 2 min read
At Custom Built, we realize it’s not your responsibility to know everything about what goes into the construction process. That’s our job. However, we believe it’s our duty to leave you with a newly remodeled part of your home, as well as an in-depth understanding of what we are doing along the way.
Our process is straightforward, and the scope of your personal project is consistent from start to finish. It can be frustrating to have your budget change in the middle of a project, and having to make the tough decision to put more into it or having a lower-quality job.
That is why our process at Custom Built is tried and true; for over 15 years our team has developed and adapted this process to eliminate surprises, guard against headaches and preserve the joy in your life and home.
Our Proven Process for Project Success
First and foremost, we need you to fill out a contact form so that we can get in touch to schedule a consultation. We also provide a Project Details Form for you to fill out to give us a better understanding of what your project entails. After that, one of our project development advisors will reach out to schedule an in-home consultation.
Once your consultation is scheduled, our project development advisor will come to you to get an idea of your budget range and what you want to see happen in your home. They will ask questions to fully understand what you want out of this experience and provide expert advice on design and layouts to make your project perfect.
After you and your advisor are on the same page, they will give you a guaranteed price range for the entire project, from start to finish. Like we said, we don’t add on any surprises during our home projects. We stick to our word. With a 10 percent design deposit, a project development agreement will need to be signed, and then it’s time for the fun stuff!
We’ll come back one more time, within a week, to get detailed measurements and photos for our design team. Our design experts will take this information and start working on your conceptual design drawings.
When our design team has completed your drawings, we will invite you to our Okemos showroom for a virtual tour of what your project will look like. At this time you will also need to specify selections for your project. For example, if it’s a kitchen project you’ll choose the cupboards, countertops and tile. For a deck, you’ll decide the railings and where you want electrical outlets.
It may feel overwhelming, but don’t worry; that’s why you have us! We will be there every step of the way. We even have several Pinterest pages to help you find what you like and make informed decisions for your home. We will re-design your conceptual design and have you back once more to make sure everything is just how you envisioned before we start construction.
With all selections and designs finalized, you will sign another agreement with 50 percent of the guaranteed total price due before moving forward with your construction plan. The construction plan is a document that outlines the steps of your production process from beginning to end. You may not understand everything at first, but we would be honored to explain so that you can have the best sense of understanding and agreement.
We will create a schedule and be in touch with you about your project’s start date and timeline. Whether we are completing a deck, kitchen, bath or any other kind of home project, the main goal of our process is to be efficient. Our process gets us in and out of your home with minimal impact on you and your family’s daily lives.
Like we said, we have been doing this for over 15 years and have a pretty good handle on what makes a job well done. We are proud of the work we have done on all of our projects, and hope we are your choice for your next home improvement needs.
