How Much do Kitchen Cabinets Cost in Lansing, MI

Are you planning a kitchen remodel and unclear how much to budget for your cabinets? Learn what you can expect to pay and the factors that impact your cost

One of the biggest questions you’re likely asking about your kitchen remodel is how much you should expect to pay for cabinets?

It is impossible to set an accurate remodeling budget without knowing how much kitchen cabinets cost and what factors influence their pricing.

At Custom Built, our mission is to provide Mid-Michigan homeowners with their dream kitchen spaces. For the last 15+ years, we have delivered on this promise and built more than 100 kitchens for Lansing area residents.

In this article, you’ll learn about average costs for kitchen cabinets, along with factors that influence cabinet pricing.

What’s the cost of kitchen cabinets?

Small kitchen layout (15 - 24 Linear Feet)

Medium kitchen layout (25 - 35 Linear Feet)

Large kitchen layout (36 - 45 Linear Feet)

$10,000 - $15,000

$15,000 - $25,000

$28,000 - $40,000+

(Includes the removal of existing cabinets and reinstallation of new, high-quality cabinets).

During your research into kitchen cabinet pricing, you will likely find an incredibly wide range of prices from different sources. Some company sites may provide pricing as low as $2,000 while others quote as much as $50,000+.

A range this large isn’t very helpful.  Numbers alone won’t indicate quality, and they don’t take into account the specific details of your space.

Using internet prices to determine how much you should expect to pay for cabinets may result in a very inaccurate remodeling budget.

The cost of your kitchen cabinets will depend greatly on the size of your kitchen space as well as how you choose to have them installed. Price ranges for the installation of new kitchen cabinets of different layout sizes are provided below.

Factors that influence the cost of your kitchen cabinets

There are several factors that influence how much kitchen cabinets might cost. These include:

The size of your kitchen: One of the most impactful factors on cabinet cost is the size of your kitchen. This includes both the number of cabinets needed and the increased labor to remove and install them.

Door overlay style: The door overlay style you select for your cabinets will impact their price. Typically, full and partial overlay doors are less expensive than inset doors.

Cabinet door style: Different cabinet door styles such as shaker, raised panel, or beveled edge will affect the cost of your cabinets.

Shaker-style doors tend to be the more affordable option whereas beveled and raised panel doors tend to be more expensive. This is because beveled and raised panel doors require more manufacturing to produce.

Cabinet box material: The material used to construct your cabinet boxes will impact their price. Two commonly used materials are furniture board and plywood. You can expect to spend more on cabinets constructed with plywood than furniture board.

Finished surface species of wood: While your cabinet box may be constructed of another material, visible portions are often built with solid wood. The species of wood used for your finished surfaces will affect your cabinet price.

Poplar, pine, and oak tend to be less expensive, while species such as cherry, maple, and walnut tend to be more expensive.

Accessories: The accessory options you select for your cabinets will have an impact on your overall cost. Including soft-close hinges and glides, cabinet pull-out options, lazy susan shelves, trash cabinets, and glass front cabinets will naturally increase cabinet prices.

Paint and stain selection: Whether you select to paint or stain your cabinets will impact their cost as well.

Typically, you can expect to pay more for paint as opposed to a stain because more steps are required to complete the painting process. Custom colors typically cost more than standard color options as well.

Cabinet crown molding: You can select crown molding where your cabinets meet the ceiling to give them a different style. Crown molding cost will vary depending on the length required and the intricacy of the molding style.
